A Scary Story

She pulled the covers up over her head

And lay there trembling in the night

What was that noise

That sounded like something slithering

Under her bed

She was too terrified to scream

She tried, but the words would not come out

And besides a scream would only draw unwanted

Attention from that dark and evil thing that lay beneath.

She was paralyzed with fear of something dreaded and mean.

The horror off anticipation of what was to come

Was too much to bare, so she peeked out

From under the covers

And risked being eaten

Or worse.

The sights that she saw would have terrified almost anyone

Over in the corner by the closet door, eyes glared

in a menacing manner

and teeth glistened in the moonlight.

She could throw back the covers

And dash for the door if only she dared.

Just when she thought that she could take no more

Just when she was ready to accept her fate

And die.

The room filled with light

Now she was blinded and more frightened than before

When a familiar voice filled the air

“Honey, I’m sorry we forgot to turn on your night light”

and in a flash the slimy creatures were gone

help had arrived

Mom had come to the rescue and was standing right there

Oh Mommy, am I glad to see you

There was a real live monster under my bed

And another one over by the closet

But you saved me Mommy

Did you see the monsters too
