Dear God

Thank you for ears that have heard the voices of Angels,

The drumming of my unborn son’s heartbeat,

babbling of brooks racing down to the ocean,

chatter of hungry birds at dawn,

     laughter of tickled children,

wild abandonment of Rock and Roll,

     friends talking over a campfire,

and secrets whispered in the night.

Thank you for Happy Dancing feet with which

I have run races both long and short,

Played leapfrog and hopscotch with friends at recess

jumped  up and down in anticipation of Christmas presents

trekked in the forest and along country roads,

and walked by the side of my lover.

Thank you for hands that have felt your Glory

     In sticky black river mud,

     Soft unblemished baby skin,

Water washed sand at the beach,

     Molded pottery,

     Snowballs and ice,

     Rolled and kneaded bread dough,

     Finger paints,

and the tender face of a loving wife.

Thank you for eyes that have seen Mysteries

     In mountains nestled in clouds,

     Smiles

the eyes of a loyal dog

     horizons of dawn and sundown

     stars

     amoebas in a microscope

and a sleeping bride after her wedding night bathed in the light of a full moon.

Thank you for my nose that has smelled gardenias and roses

     Fresh baked bread

Grass just cut on the autumn football field

     Lemons

     Steaks on the Bar-B-Q

     Roasting Turkey in the oven

And the Sweet Smell of Success.

Thank you for a tongue that has tasted Espresso Coffee

    Chocolate sodas

    Hot Apple Pie alamode

    Lemonade

    Cabernet Sauvignon

    And victory.

Thank you for a conscious mind that can experience love

     Appreciate the subtle,

     Enjoy the comedy

     Feel empathy and satisfaction

     Remember mistakes

     Recognize friends

     And know that I am

And Most of all Thank You for life itself
