Triad

I have two loves and it is hard to choose

Which one I love the best

To keep the one, let go the other

Perhaps you can help me decide

And bring reason to my quest

They are sisters, not identical

Like their brothers they are as different as night and day

The younger greets me in the morning

she smiles and lights up my little part of the universe

Birds sing and chatter, everything comes alive

And we embrace in anticipation of delightful things to come

When she wakes up angry

Storms rage and sailors curse

I have shared many a quaff of red wine with the older sister

We have watched solitary pelicans fly off

to try and catch the sun as it died in the west.

She instructed the pelican to hold the sun back for a while

But the sun was tired and ready to slumber

The young one sometimes comes in the early hours cloaked in the fog

My morning maid has secretly stolen her way to me

But I know when she arrives at my door

Whether there is fog or not

And we share secrets of what we think life should be

We have long conversations on where we are going or who we will see

As we tarry in bed and at breakfast, before the day begins

We forget about yesterday and all of it’s sins

When the old one comes

we talk until it is night

memories are addressed and cataloged at this hour

We discuss victories that were won

And old wounds that have never been healed

What was done wrong and what was done right

She sits beside me or

 lays at my side

And her quiet arms hold me

Until my soul surrenders

I would tell you their names which were whispered at their birth

By God himself

And keep them both, I will, to pleasure me as required

I can not make a choice

Only God can decide whence they will come and when they will go

But together they meet all of my needs, all that is desired

Thank you God for both of my lovers before I go on

At the beginning of time, God said “Let There Be Dusk and Let There Be Dawn”
