Ode to the Women at Work

 Raise your glasses ladies

And have a drink

Here’s to us women

A circle of friends, you better not cross us, I think

 Here’s to the women

Raise your glasses and drink to your fill

We’re an unlikely force to be sure

But what one of doesn’t know, the others will

The good old boys may have a network, It’s true

But VP or manager, or mail room clerk

Please be assured that we are always

Waiting and watching and listing to all that they do.

 Here’s to us ladies

The news travels fast in our group

We know their comings and goings, the little indiscretions and faults,

their darkest secrets are our latest scoop

Ladies rejoice

For in the battle of sexes, In the office place

Neither condescending smiles nor angry outbursts can stand up

to perfume and lace

From the lady administrator at the top

To the clerk in accounting and the gal Friday at the front desk

Women are everywhere it matters it seems

The men haven’t a clue, in their wildest dreams

There’s been a secret Since God made Adam and Eve

A secret that the gentlemen really don’t know

It is not what men think, or what they believe

it is really a lady, that is running the show

Ladies to be sure, here is one final toast

Remember our husbands waiting at home and hold your glass steady

Lest we all get swelled heads and begin to boast

He is sitting there wondering, when dinner will be ready
